Treating Embarrassing Veins Using Laser Technology
Published on December 21, 2017 by Raffi DishakjianWhen it comes to our skin, we try to take great care of it so that it remains blemish free, smooth, and vibrant. Having perfect, beautiful skin is a dream many people struggle with achieving. In order to reach our aesthetic goals, we stock up on anti-aging creams, makeup, lotions, and other cosmetic products to keep our skin healthy and maintain a youthful appearance.
While utilizing these cosmetic products can improve the look of your skin to some degree, it is however, limited in what they can do for you. Internally, our body undergoes a great deal of changes that can greatly affect the way our skin looks. Developing some blemishes is inevitable and they may appear in different ways.
One of the most embarrassing issues most people face is the appearance of varicose veins. A large number of people suffer from the appearance of varicose veins. These veins appear as big purple and green blemishes on the skin and are unattractive to look at.
Varicose veins are the result of sudden weight gain and are especially visible in pregnant women. They develop from smaller veins called spider veins. Spider veins are smaller in appearance as compared to varicose veins and are thin in appearance. Spider veins will increase in size over time and turn into varicose veins.
People often turn to laser technology to help reduce the embarrassing appearance of such veins on the skin. Spider veins are much easier to handle and can be treated using simple laser treatments whereas varicose veins require a more complex laser treatment.
How Laser Treatments Work
A typical laser treatment involves using a highly focused beam of energy on to the area where the spider veins or varicose veins have developed. The laser acts on the treatment area by slightly damaging the vein, resulting in scar tissue forming over the vein. The scar tissues that forms over the vein eventually closes out and removes it from view.
Treating Spider Veins
Spider veins are simple to treat and completely safe in all skin types. The laser beam penetrates the outside layer of your skin and targets the underlying veins. The precise nature of the treatment means you will not have to worry about the treatment affecting any area outside the designated treatment area.
Treating Varicose Veins
Varicose veins exist on a deep level inside your skin. When treating them, surgeons use what is known as an endovenous laser treatment or EVLT. This is a slightly more complex procedure and involves inserting a laser fiber into the vein.
The area to be treated is numbed prior to the procedure. The vein is probed using a laser fiber and laser beams are delivered to the vein in pulses. Ultimately, the vein collapses and eventually, the appearance of the vein below the skin reduces.
Not only is EVLT effective in decreasing the appearance of varicose veins, but also, during the procedure, the vein which is probed collapses and it stops the varicose veins from branching out as well.
The most common type of laser used in EVLT procedures is the Sciton Pro-V laser. It minimizes the pain and bruises that develop during the procedure and helps to improve recovery. The laser emitted is 1319 nanometer in wavelength and works by heating the water retained in the varicose vein. The heat generated gradually closes the vein. The Sciton Pro-V laser is an Nd:YAG laser.
