Is Laser Vein Removal a Safe Option?
Published on February 1, 2019 by Nu Vela Laser and Vein CenterHaving a lot of veins that cover your face and body can be incredibly annoying, especially if they’re prominent and not easy to hide. Veins appear suddenly in a lot of people and there’s not much you can do about them on your own. However, the good news is; with a little help from a vein specialist, these unsightly veins can be treated.
You might be wondering, what kind of process vein removal entails. Is it painful? Does it cause scars? It used to involve a process called electrocautery, which was used to treat and remove these veins. This technique would result in intolerable pain and also scarring.
That’s not the case anymore! Since the development of lasers technology, an innovative new treatment, known as the Cutera Nd: YAG laser treatment, can be performed to remove most of these spider veins giving you problems.
How Does The Treatment Work?
The YAG laser treatment can be used to treat both small as well as large veins. It is effective on veins as big as 4 mm thick. Do note that multiple treatments may be required depending on the thickness of the veins to see any visible difference.
This treatment can be used on any part of your body to reduce the appearance of veins. It promises the best results with minimal discomfort. It is particularly good for areas of the face that have visible veins.
You may find that your veins will be removed in a single treatment, especially if you are looking into treating small areas like the nose. If you are looking into treating larger areas like your legs, back, or arms, you will need multiple treatment sessions for optimal results. You may also need multiple sessions if you have a concentration of capillaries that are excessively dilated on certain areas of the body.
The YAG laser treatment is highly effective at permanently removing unsightly spider-veins. However, there are times, when the body may reopen the vessel before it gets completely absorbed and the vein may come back.
Hence it is usually recommended to go for a follow-up treatment. The treatment sessions are usually scheduled with a gap of at least two to three months. Each session of treating veins with laser (for each area) may take around 15-20 minutes and you have the option to return to work on the very same day.
A cooling gel is applied before the treatment to minimize any discomfort you may encounter. Once the session is over, you will not feel any discomfort. The treated area may have a few small pinkish bumps resembling mosquito bites but these fade away in a day or two.
You may also find that the treated area is sensitive to hot water for a couple of days after the treatment. At times, your skin may develop scabs or blisters which should heal within a couple of weeks. Your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic ointment that can assist in faster healing.
At times, little blood may leak out of the vessel before it’s sealed. This may result in a bruise or the skin becoming slightly discolored. At times a lightish brown discoloration may occur due to the iron in the blood. This usually goes away in a few days, though at times it may last for up to a month.
It is recommended that you do your research on the treatment before going for it. If you’d like to learn more, it’s important that you speak to a skilled vein specialist who can help you fully understand the details of the procedure.
