Worried About Getting a Vein Treatment?

Published on January 11, 2019

Varicose veins and spider veins can be problematic medical conditions that not only involve cosmetic concerns but also can be physically debilitating in the more severe cases. Although there are a number of medical procedures for treating veins, people are often apprehensive about their efficacy and safety in terms of potential side effects.

To clarify any such doubts that you might have regarding vein treatments, we have listed some of the most popular medical procedures that are both safe and effective in eliminating the problem of varicose and spider veins.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is one of the most widely incorporated medical procedures that are used by doctors worldwide for the treatment of spider veins and varicose veins today. In this procedure, the doctor injects a saline solution directly into the affected vein, causing the inner lining of the blood vessel to collapse and the blood to clot.

Over the next couple of days, the treated vessel dies off and forms a scar tissue that is eventually eliminated or absorbed by the body, leaving no trace behind.

Foam Sclerotherapy

A relatively new version of the traditional sclerotherapy treatment, foam sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps in eliminating unsightly varicose veins and spider veins in both males as well as female patients.

The procedure involves injecting a foam sclerosant directly in a blood vessel near the affected vein as a result of which, blood changes its normal circulatory pattern and reroutes through the healthy vein restoring normal flow.

Laser Vein Removal

One of the most advanced medical procedures for varicose veins and spider veins, laser vein removal, is one of the safest and most effective ways of treating even the most severe cases. The basic premise of this procedure is that it makes use of a highly focused beam of laser light to heat up the affected vein and damage it permanently.

Once the blood vessel is damaged, it eventually forms scar tissue which shuts down the vein and causes its death. The closed vein gradually disappears over time. There are two types of laser vein removal treatments, namely the simple laser treatment and the endovenous laser treatment.

Venefit

Venefit is a minimally invasive medical procedure that employs the use of radiofrequency (RF) energy for treating severe cases of varicose veins or CVI (chronic venous insufficiency). The vein specialist will first insert a specialized catheter called ClosureFast directly into the affected vein.

The catheter provides uniform heat to the collagen present in the walls of the vein and causes them to shrink and eventually collapse. The collapsed vein causes blood to change its normal course and re-route to the nearby healthy veins. The diseased vein eventually dies and disappears over the course of time.

Depending upon your specific case and your previous and existing medical conditions, the doctor might prescribe you any of the aforementioned procedures to permanently cure your vein condition without causing any harmful side effects to your body.
