Varicose Veins Before and After

The varicose veins of all patients were treated either with Endovenous Laser Treatment for varicose veins, EVLT, or Venifit radiofrequency vein ablation, known also as VNUS Closure Procedure.
In some cases, patients have also received one or two sclerotherapy injection treatments for their spider veins.
All treatment procedures were performed by Dr. Raffi Dishakjian, the vein specialist of Nu Vela Laser and Vein Center.

This is a 51 year old African American woman from Panorama City, California, Los Angeles County, who presented with visibly bulging varicose veins. These veins first appeared with her pregnancy more than a decade ago and enlarged progressively, making her very self conscious as well as causing symptoms of chronic heaviness and aching in her right leg. She underwent Laser ablation (EVLT) of her Great Saphenous Vein, which was the root cause of her chronic venous reflux. The after pictures were taken 7 months following the EVLT procedure, demonstrating the dramatic shrinkage of the surface varicose veins. These surface branch veins were not treated directly but responded to eliminating the underlying venous reflux of the saphenous vein.

DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT OF VENOUS DERMATITIS AND VARICOSE VEINS AFTER EVLT
This is an 84 year old Caucasian man who was referred to us by his daughter. He has had very long standing chronic venous congestion of his legs with many of the late manifestations of the untreated venous hypertension, including swelling, chronic skin changes like venous dermatitis (inflammation), brownish red pigmentation and lipodermatosclerosis (loss of fat and thickening of the skin). In addition, he had extensive spider and blue veins and non-healing bleeding varicosities in his left ankle. Fortunately he had not developed venous ulceration yet. The after pictures were taken only after 4 weeks following the laser ablation (EVLT) of the Lesser Saphenous vein of the left leg. Without further treatment, a dramatic improvement is noted in the swelling of the leg, bulginess of the varicosities, inflammation of the leg as well as spontaneous healing of the bleeding at the ankle. However, most of the skin pigmentation may not be reversible unfortunately.

The after pictures represent the spontaneous improvement in the bulginess of these veins only six weeks following laser ablation (EVLT) of the saphenous vein up in the groin area. Additional direct treatment of the surface veins with microphlebectomy and/or sclerotherapy would give this patient more complete clearance.

BEFORE AND AFTER VENEFIT TREATMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS
This is 47 year old Caucasian woman from Chatsworth, Los Angeles County, California, presented with prominent bulging varicosities extending from the thigh to the ankle, in addition to blue and spider veins ant the ankle level. A Duplex Venous Ultrasound exam revealed a significant venous reflux (backflow) in the Great Saphenous Vein from the groin to the knee. This vein was ablated with the Venefit procedure effectively shutting it down. The after photos taken 4 months later show a remarkable improvement in the varicose and spider veins without additional treatments.
